I cannot stop marveling about how all of these "really smart" people are so durned stupid. We have that human(?) gaffe machine, Joe Biden, going around with nothing but babbling idiocy coming out of his pie hole and then all these high priced politicians and journalists, university professors and city folks telling me we should be listening to him about United States firearm policy.
So, what does "Sheriff Joe" tell a woman about protecting herself? Well, the first thing is that it is incredibly sexist for him to tell her what she needs. Women are not generally too stupid to figure out what works for them." Hello, sweet young thing, you're too silly to know how to aim a rifle so take this shotgun."
Now it is true that I do not particularly care for the AR-15 platform. I like the .223/5.56mm cartridge but only as a varmint round. That is my personal belief, many people differ. I am not smart enough to know what a complete stranger needs. That's probably why I'm not in politics.
So, now this paragon of human intelligence tells this stranger to get a shotgun. The truth is, at normal defense distance, a shotgun must be aimed as carefully as a rifle. And, except for the reduced recoil loads it takes a whole lot of seasoning before the averaged-sized women can get aimed repeat shots off quickly from the major bore shotguns. Please note I did not say one couldn't.
One thing I've noticed in my life is that it is actually easier to get a woman up to a basic level of competence with firearms than it is a man. Other experienced shooters say the same. Theories differ, I believe it is because boys learn how to shoot from those Hollywood idiots. When I was a child it was movies with cowboys holding six shooters with hundred round cylinders and holding full charged black powder .45s so that the recoil from a real round would put that shootin' iron about an inch deep into their foreheads. Along with a lot of other drivel. Today it's more of the same, plus holding the pistol sideways and bullets blowing people 'cross the room, out the window and into parked cars halfway down the block. I'm not persactly sure why little girls don't fall for this, maybe girls really are smarter than boys. Or, maybe women just listen better.
Anyhow, Sheriff Joe wants a women to go out on the balcony (what if she doesn't have one?) and fire off a couple of blasts. Of course HIS wife can just call the Secret Service. All the other women would have violated the law about firing inside the city limits, plus several other laws, some felonies. Of course Biden's wife, even if he were still a lowly Senator, would probably get off because of the Gregory Rule. And if anyone were injured by one of those projectiles the injured person would be prosecuted for bothering Someone Important. The rest of us would be taken downtown. Assuming, of course, that we survived emptying our gun in the air in face of a threat.
And, THIS is the fellow we are supposed to listen to?
And we are supposed to take our tax advice from a clutch of tax cheats. and our economic advice from a President who has no record of ever even running a lemonade stand, much less a business. Unless there is more about that Choom Gang than we have heard.
We have somehow manged to let a whole lot of very stupid people into positions of power. One thing, the spell checker here says Biden is a mistake. The spell checker is right.

The Socialist Educrat Taking Over The Service Academies?
So I was over at the Puppy Blender's Site yesterday and saw where some kind of Terrorism Center at the United States Military at West Point, the place where they turn promising high school grads into embryo professional Army Officers, put out a report saying that the biggest danger of terrorism is from right wing Americans. The guy responsible for this "report" is the boss of the Sociology Dept.
I'm not sure where he got any evidence of right wing terrorism from Americans, Seems the terrorism is coming from Muslims and the left. The NRA has set no firebombs or attacked any research center like the Animal Liberation Front and The Earth Liberation Front. And The Southern Baptists may disapprove of dancing but haven't set off any bombs . The loser Nazis and KKK types are all left wing, contrary to scholarly opinion, since most "scholars" looking into things like this try to excuse the slaughters of Mao and Stalin and claim that if only they were in charge, this time socialism will work.
I believe it was Thomas Sowell who popularized the saying "an idea so stupid only an intellectual could believe it."
This clown, teaching the young men and women who will be released to care for the very lives of their soldiers is in the wrong line of work. He should be standing on a street corner somewhere, ranting and raging against the very people who paid the taxes to fund the left wing centers that filled his mind with utter drivel.
There is no danger of terrorism from the people who go to rallies and leave the parks cleaner than they found them. The State and Federal Governments could actually save a little mone. Simply announce some policy that only a University Womyn's Study Professor could want, the TEA Party folks will show up, when they leave the Capitol Grounds would be squeaky clean.
Meanwhile the drug gangs have taken over large swaths of our biggest cities, the border security is a lame joke and we are borrowing forty-one cents of every dollar we spend. And we are spending this money illegally, the Senate has stopped the voting on the National Budget. Now I'm just a pore dumb redneck who got his GED in the Service and never finished college but I seem to remember from my high school classes that there must be a budget, continuing resolutions don't make it.
Yet the right is the danger. Um-hmm. And this clown is indoctrinating our future military leaders. Or trying to. Thank God these kids will all be in the care of long time Sergeants. These ideas will get our soldiers killed. Worse, these ideas will lead to officers who do not understand what the military is for. Of course we already have that with the Generals tamely accepting the "green on blue" murders in Afghanistan.. Hint to the politicians wearing uniforms: The military doesn't rebuild societies. The military goes in, kills people and breaks things until the bad guys scream' Oh, God! Please stop!" Then can come the State Department and the Peace Corps. And the military goes back to it's best job, standing around looking so fierce that nobody wants to start something. And the military is failing at that job. Our ground troops are worn out from repeated deployments, our ships are pretty much decrepit and our aircraft aging. Worse, we're sending lightly armed infantry where we should be sending tactical nukes.
We have tried, since at least the Bush 41 Administration, to just kill the bad guys and we try to avoid a war with Islam. Which sounds good but we simply cannot raise enough infantry to kill Jihadis as fast as the Madrasas make them. If we kill twenty of them and they kill one of ours, they win. We simply do not have the young men to fill up the ranks of the riflemen. The days of taking farm boys in and tying a strand of straw to one shoe and hay to the other, teaching them to march by counting out hay foot, straw foot, handing them a musket differing only in cosmetics from the squirrel rife at home and having them march in formation, by the regiment up and fire once and give them the bayonet, those days are long gone. Heck, we don't have many farm boys left.
Today a PFC is probably smarter than at least half of the kids his age on a college campus and is certainly in better shape. Meanwhile the Madrasas churn out thousands of young men who only know the commandments of Jihad. And they are willing to tape explosives to their crotch and get on an airliner. They are willing to put explosive vests on and kill themselves to take out a Corporal. Their leaders are willing to seek out the mentally challenged and tape bombs to them. Funny how those leaders are too important to die themselves.
We aren't going to win this fight until we take it to Saudi Arabia and to Pakistan, and the rest of those places that teach the killing of Infidels.
And the Service Academies are teaching the young leaders of our armed forces that Uncle Bill, the deer hunting, tax paying veteran is the real enemy. Somehow I think our tax dollars, not to mention the forty-one borrowed cents out of every dollar the federal government spends are wasted.

Ammunition
There are a lot of news stories about the bazillions of firearms being sold these days and how dealers have hardly any "military looking" rifles left in stock. No one seems to be mentioning ammo.
I, of course, have no firearms left after that tragic canoe wreck I had but I still have some suppliers in my "bookmarks". I had a bad case of can't sleep the other night and so after I read all the blog posts I cared to and after I got tired of www.nakedchubbygirls.org I looked in on my ammo and components suppliers. Folks, there ain't none.
Go to www.midwayUSA.com and find bare shelves. For instance every single box of .22lr hollowpoint ammo is marked "out of stock, no backorder. Most of the popular handgun cartridges are gone, and just TRY to find some .223, .308 or 7.62x39.
Shotgun ammo? There are only two, out of thirty-five choices of 12 gauge two and three quarter inch buckshot loads available and I don't reckon they'll be available for long. So if you want some call yesterday. Of course the Winchester copper plated double ought buck is kind of pricey and the other load, a low recoil buckshot load is in an eighty round box. I've seen a few gunfights and read of many more, I've never heard of one using up eighty rounds of shotgun ammo.
I'm kind of curious. With all these folks buying rifles, pistols, shotguns and ammo, just how many of 'em are going to carry their shootin' irons down to the local commissar when the "sensible gun regulation" becomes a total ban? And, just whom will the politicos choose to go door to door to arrest these millions of new criminals?
Nanny Bloomberg and Swishy Rham (NTTAWWT) know where the gangs are. They have a pretty fair idea of who they are. They certainly don't care much about the various Constitutional Amendments about search and seizure and right to property so why haven't they send their city police out to round them up? Heck, by the time the arrests and confiscation worked their way through the court system most of the gangbangers would be past the most dangerous age and the guns would have been melted down to make Chevy Volts and bird killing windmills. So, why don't they go after the illegal guns?
The answer is simple, they'd lose a lot of their police officers. And the rest would decide on a different line of work. So, instead of going after the criminals they are going after millions of law abiding citizens and thousands of law abiding businesses. So, what about the millions of brand new criminals? That is what we'll have if DiFi gets her way. And exactly what percentage of these brand new criminals will shoot?
You smart people in media and politics should consider that question very carefully. A lot depends on it.

What Changed?
I've kept quiet about the Newtown massacre while I tried to figure out what happened. Meanwhile the usual suspects have been howling about guns. There have been hundreds of people spouting off about killing the NRA President and members. Aside from this not being particularly nonviolent I would posit that threatening armed people might just be a mistake.
I have found a couple of strange things about this most recent massacre, one is that the Congress and the President have let a couple of school safety programs lapse, one funding police in schools.
Another odd thing about Newtown is that it took twenty minutes for police to show up from the first calls of shooting inside that school.
Twenty minutes. That is a pretty good response time for police to show up for a theft report, suspect gone. It might be a pretty fair response time for a deputy sheriff in rural northwest Texas. It is not a good response time for a city police responding to a shooting inside a grade school. Someone should be asking what those police were doing. The average citizen won't like the answer. The day of the first officer on the scene running to the sound of the gunfire is long over. Today we "establish a perimeter." We set up a chain of command. We establish a line of communication. We gather intelligence. We then wait for the heavily armored SWAT types to go in and only then does the shooter kill himself.
I admit, I've never been to Newtown and have no idea of the terrain. I will say that it is damned well impossible to believe that the nearest patrol car was twenty minutes away.
One of the reasons these killing sprees happen is that police no longer have commanders, they have administrators. Their key philosophy is to make sure that no blame redounds to themselves. And an ijured or killed police officer is a real drain on the municipal budget whereas a dead child does not financially affect the city.
An important question: How many police have been killed or injured during one of these killing sprees since Columbine? Hint: More police have been killed or injured protecting government motorcades. Police administrators have forgot the addage of shedding blood to take the King's shilling. We spend a lot of money on officer safety, as we should. In reponse, the officers go into dangerous situations. Still, it seems the more we spend on officer safety the longer it takes said officers to actually do something useful when there is shooting going on. This is not the fault of the officers but is the fault of the administrators.
Please note that I am not calling for a bloodbath in police work. I am saying that many lives would be saved by having those first officers go in and cause the shooter to kill himself, as almost always happens. I am further saying that the person who goes into policing to be safe had better apply, instead, to city road repair. The life of an officer is not worth more than that of a child. Again, no officers have been killed in all these school massacres since and including Columbine.
It is, of course, more than poor administration of our police. I grew up in an era where we had a high school rifle team. Kids in Jr. ROTC got to fire fully automatic Browning Automatic Rifles. Many high school principals had large closets where the kids could pack their hunting rifles and shotguns during the seasons.
A kid with money could write off to one of the advertisors in The American Rifleman and get a lot of really fine rifles, revolvers and pistols. There were 1903 Springfield rifles for around fortty bucks. German Mausers were even cheaper and at the bottom of the barrel were the Japanese 6.5 and 7.7 mm and those Italian 6.5 and 7.7s. There were M1 rifles and M 1 Carbines, both .30 caliber but the M 1 fired the full sized .30-06 and the Carbine a hot pistol-type thing with a lighter bullet. As I recall, that was the round Charles Whitman used, mostly, in the Texas Tower massacre. There were thousand of the old British .303 let go, tons of .45 auto M1911 pitols, Webley revolvers in both .455 Brit and .38 S&W were cheap, along with bazillions of Colt and S&W .38s both .38 Special and .38 S&W.
Yet we boys settled our differences with fists. And that is a big difference. Today a kid fistfight is pretty much beyond the pale. And THAT is a big difference. Somehow we have allowed education to be feminized. Recesses are almost gone, with none of the physical games boys of my day played. Today a child with normal boyish energy is medicated. He's no longer a boy but is hyperactive or has A.D.D. So, today they sit around, numb and playing games on their mobile phones. Or texting.
I live where cell phone coverage is very spotty. The largest man made lake inside Texas is a half mile away by the trail kids (or adults) can walk. It teems with catfish and bass. It is a small game hunter's paradise. Our back roads are great for bicycles, we have lots of horses. Yet when I drive home after school hours I see kids standing around, in the spots where they can get coverage, with cell phones in both hands, not even looking up as cars go by. What do these boys do with their energy? And our "betters" blame the fast food industry.
My own grandsons aren't allowed to roam. Kids are on such short leashes today and it's a crying shame.
Most, if not all, of the people doing these spree shootings were on some sort of psychotropic drug. Something is really wrong and it ain't the guns. We've always had guns. We've had high capacity semioauto guns since the 1903 Winchester .32 and 35 self loading cartridges. Then in 1907 we got the more capable .351 and in 1910 the .401 Winchester SL. These stubby little carbines had short magazines from the factory although when I was a boy I knew an old bluesuit who had a .401 with a long mag he'd either cobbled together or bought. Of course far more LEOs had lever action carbines in .44 WCF and .38WCF. Few carried the longer .30WCF (.30-30) or .32 Special. Many carried 92 Winchesters converted to .38 Special and .357 Mag.
My own Marlin .357, made in the mid 1970s spent some ten years in a county cruiser, far more useful in the country than a patrol shotgun. But, that's another story. It's just we've always had guns. And if we ban certain guns criminals and madmen will just use another form of gun. Suppose there was some kind of magic spell to remove all semi auto handguns? And it would take a magic spell, there are far too many for a law to get rid of them. After all, tell me again how people get heroin andcocaine wheen there are draconian laws about them.
Still, without those dread semiautos, what could the Newtown killer do? Well, he could have shot his way in with one or two revolvers and then used gasoline bombs. How many one quart molotov cocktails can fit in a backpack?
It ain't the guns, folks. We're doing things seriously wrong today and we're looking at the wrong things for solutions.

Michelle O Says We're In The Middle Of A Giant Recovery.
Who knew? There is a whole new industry growing by leaps and bounds, though. The theft of copper wire and other saleable items from abandoned houses. And stealing stuff from farms, although that isn't quite so common here where we're still allowed to shoot the buggers.
Lord, these Obamas are dumber than a box of gravel.

Well Joe, You've Got The Hard Part Done, You've Got It Talked About.
Last night's "debate" beminds me of back when I was in the Service. Some twerp would be loudly and profanely telling someone how he was going to kick his hiney and that some one would quietly say "you got the hard part done, you got it talked about". Oddly, that was often the end of it, although usually if it came to blows the loudmouth would lose. Of course it's also possible that Biden listened to Algore and decided that he would not fall prey to the high altitude so he sucked on a bottle of Nitrous Oxide thinking it was oxygen. It ain't like he's the brightest of all God's little door prizes. That's an explanation. Stupidity, poor manners and laughing gas. That's Joe!
Meanwhile the Twitterverse is full of folks saying "If Romney wins imma gonna riot!" Um, go ahead. Citizens learned from the Rodney King riots. Unarmed people had their homes and businesses trashed and burned. Armed people did not have their homes and businesses trashed and burned. People like to claim that the big surge in gun buying happened during Clinton and then continued. Um, no, it's people folks learned from those riots. So, go ahead. Riot. Remember your buckshot proof BVDs.
I do not really understand the hatred from the left.Biden made no coherent points, he just giggled and tried to bully. The "moderator" would not let Ryan complete a sentence. And the left is rejoicing. No one but diehard leftists thought Biden did anything. Meanwhile undecideds were repulsed. Do we really want a babbling bully a heartbeat away from the Presidency? I don't. Biden bullying Ryan is a nonsequiter anyway. Biden depended on Ryan being the adult in the room. Had Ryan stooped to Biden's level Ryan would have turned Plugs upside down, put his feet in his armpits and ridden him like a pogo stick.
This is the M.O. of the left. Their very lives depend on the decency of their victims. Trouble is, they're betting on a losing horse. They are now endangering our children and grandchildren. There is a reason that the outlaws of the old west never managed to "tree a western town". It is our side that has the veterans. It is our side that has the working LEOs. It is our side that has the hunters. And they're trying to bully us. I'm asceered! Mommy! Yeah, right.

A Nation Of Strangers
Another mass shooting. These things never happened in my grandparents' day. They didn't have television or air conditioning, they had porches. They knew their neighbors and neighborhood.
Over at The Ace of Spades they tout a pair of pictures, the Tucson shooter and this nut in Colorado. The expressions on those two faces are more or less identical. It's really not that hard to notice a nutcase, and today we see them all the time. Mostly wandering the streets having loud arguments with someone nobody else can see. Most are mainly just a pain in the butt, making noise, pooping in doorways, panhandling, etc.
They would actually be better off in an institution if only we could find staff that doesn't either abuse them or ignore their needs, along with doctors that didn't believe they owned the patients for the practice of bizarre theories.
After the left tried very hard to make the Tucson shooting a right wing plot the public eventually found out that Loughner was an apolitical nut who should have been involuntarily committed if the local law enforcement had been doing the job. He would have then had to jump through more hoops to get his gun, perhaps even discouraged by the initial official refusal.
We will probably eventually read or hear about James Holmes, the accused shooter being somewhat strange. I've already read about "shy but intelligent". The simple reality is that no one just wakes up and decides to off a bunch of strangers. It takes time for such a mental state to grow. In the old days people would notice. As we saw in Tucson, people did notice but, again, law enforcement failed. In my grandparents' day he would have been hauled downtown, perhaps with a minor tuneup along the way. The second or third time he would have been committed.
We let crazies roam the streets because of their "rights". Nobody mentions the rights of the people who have to put up with them. And the Loughners and Holmses have their "rights". No one mentions the rights of the folks in that theatre. The same crowd that excoriates the Second Amendment, the NRA and the Tea Party would never allow the Holmses and the Loughners to be locked up. That would be judgemental. Somehow a lack of judgement has become a virtue. No wonder we have Joe Effin' Biden as VP.

I Few Things I Wish I Was Smart Enough To Understand
Like most folks I've been trying to follow this Zimmerman-Martin mess. I do not know what happened through the whole thing from the time Zimmerman hung up until the eyewitness called the local bluesuits. I do know that there will likely be a few people go to the House of Many Slammers from paying attention to the leftist media (but I repeat myself). The left is still saying this case has something to do with the stand your ground law. They are saying Zimmerman was released from custody because he was allowed to shoot because he was afraid. I'm curious. What will happen when some poor sap who believes NBS or the New York Grimes and blows away someone on account of being afraid?
Anyhow stand your ground only says you do not have to retreat from somewhere you are lawfully, it says noting about laying on the ground getting your head bashed.
I read something from Mas Ayoob about how Zimmerman's pistol was found when it was examined by the police.Seems it had a full magazine and a fired round in the chamber. This pistol being a semi-auto there are only three reasons for it to be in this condition. One, the gun was in such bad repair that the slide would not function to eject the empty and chamber a new round. Possible but unlikely. The forensics lab would have fired a test round so that the various LEO Blogs would have said something. Ain't nobody gossips like cops.
Second possibility would be the gun was jammed so hard against Zimmerman's body (or ground) that the slide could not function. This is not a normal way to shoot, the only reason to try to fire a weapon like that is if there is a hand to hand struggle.
Third possibility? Someone had the slide in a firm grip. Now Zimmerman would not have tried to grab that gun and I have heard of no others there but Martin. These second to possibilities have me leaning towards Zimmerman's story but nobody really knows. Including Congressman Rush.
Much has been said and reams written about how poor young Mr. Martin would be alive today if only Zimmerman had done this, that or some other thing. No one has bothered mentioning that poor young Mr. Martin would also still be alive had he not gotten kicked out of school for a week or two. He would have been around a hundred miles away, well out of range of a 9mm.
I wish I were smart enough to know why the leftist media, there I go, repeating myself again, is shoveling out all this misinformation. Why is Congressman Rush and the Revrum Jackson and the rest of that crowd whipping folks up into such a frenzy? If this actually breaks into widespread violence, well, I've always tried real hard to not pick a fight when I'm outnumbered some eight to one. Can these clowns not count?
I could sort of understand trying to whip up the black vote for the election but how much do they gain if, at the same time they alienate the Hispanic vote. Eh, maybe Biden is advising them.

This Is Really Strange
I find it very odd. One of the Occupy Whatever Street groups has issued a pamphlet about "What to do if you're raped." I find it very strange that if one build a movement out of demanding money that one has not earned, from those who have earned it, that you do not get the pillars of society. One would think that only high minded dogooders would form in these camps.
I do not recall any of the TEA Party events having to put out such pamphlets. Could it be that there is a fundamental difference in the mindset? On the one hand we have the "Give me theirs!" On the other hand the "Leave me alone!" Could there possibly be a difference in the type of people who show up?
Seems that theft is rampant, too. How could this be?

Half Fast And Furious
I'm still trying to get my mind around the Obama Administration letting, and sometimes even paying for, a whole slew of firearms to go out the doors of gun shops in the hands of straw purchasers. Worse, it seems that some even left in the hands of at least one feller with a criminal record. I have a lot of questions about this thing but let's start with the simple fact that it is illegal for a gun to leave the store in the hands of a criminal. I The only way a gun leaves the store without the storekeeper calling the FBI hotline for an instant background check is if the buyer shows a valid CCW. Now, if the shopkeeper calls the hotline he's got to tell the Feebs all about the buyer and the purchase.
This raises further questions in my poor bald head. For instance, why would the Feebs okay a cash purchase of dozens (or more) of the same kind of shootin' iron without asking for a lot more information. I've never had the money to buy a dozen guns at once, I've never been in the business of buying or selling guns. I have know several folks who have been in that business, though. They all used checks or plastic to buy their stock. Heck, I'm not even in the business and the only times I've ever bought guns with cash have been when buying from individuals, as when I bought a couple from fellow Single Action Shooting Society members.
Anyhow, this is all the proof I need to show that this operation went beyond one agency. I know it's not enough for a court of law but then I'm not a lawyer. I do have some standards.
I also wonder why the cartel(s?) wanted to buy these guns. Seems that most of them were semi-auto versions of the AK-47. Due to the mountain of restrictions in this country the old Kalashnikov is more expensive in a US shop that a fully auto version still in the crate in, say Venezuela. I know the cartels have bathtubs full of cash but, still, why would one pay more money for a less capable weapon? It isn't like the cartels are the US government.
I confess, I've not run a detailed study of the cartels. I do a little reading, though, and I check out Bob Owens at Confederate Yankee, as well as the Sipsey Street Irregulars so I do know a little bit about this operation. So here are just a few things I know. There are slews of Mexican soldiers deserting to the cartels. They bring their US supplied M-16s. A certain amount of garrison commanders have brought their whole arsenals with them when they came over. When that happens the US simple writes another check more more guns to the Mexicans, lather, rinse, repeat.
Truth to tell, though, the cartels really prefer the AKs. The Kalashnikov is much more friendly to a gunman who is not much on maintenance. The M16 must be kept really clean, the Ak will shoot with all kinds of crud in and on it. The '16 is a lot more accurate, in the hands of a marksman but the cartels do not have a lot of marksmen.
Another think I can't figure out is how this bunch of numbskulls thought they could get a slew of federal law enforcement officers to keep quiet while this whole thing played out. The majority of Feds are cops, not politicians. And real cops aren't going to stand for the killing of hundreds of civilians, a few Feds and, it now seems, the arming of Chicago area gangs fro Indiana gun shops.
I have a lot more questions but this is a start. The only thing I can think of to explain this is if the whole Obama Administration, from the President down to the janitor are all a bunch of affirmative action retards.

Up On The Clear Fork
Just before the great war called the Civil War today, once known down here as the War of Northern Aggression, the first white settlers tried to settle the land where Rick Perry was born. Those people were either killed by Indians, both Kickapoo and Comanche. The land was quiet again until well after the war. After the Comanche were finally subdued and the rest of the tribes sent up to the Indian Territory, later stolen from them and renamed Oklahoma, northwest Texas was finally settled by white folks. And they were white folks, there were very few freed slaves or what were then known as Mexicans.
The land was mostly arid plains with just a few creeks flowing into the forks of the Brazos. Cattle was king back then, the small farms were impractical, the water wasn't there. And that's the way it stayed until they dammed the river. This brought practical irrigation in with cotton replacing cattle in places. There was also some oil discovered not long after the turn of the Twentieth Century.
Somehow places were named with no regard to Twenty-first Century ideals, the nerve of those oldtimers! A pasture of a cattle ranch was named "Niggerhead, after a particular rock. Later the rock had that name painted on it. Years, decades after that a northwest Texas farmer and Democrat politician leased that pasture for hunting. That Democrat was Rick Perry's dad. Eventually Dad Perry painted over the offending name. Please bear in mind that Dad Perry did not own the rock and may have well gotten in trouble over painting over the name, had the rancher who did own that rock so chosen. The rancher did not, although the lawsuit would have been interesting. Still, had the rancher complained, loudly, that still would not have satisfied the pearl clutchers at the Washington Post.
Later Dad Perry even turned the rock with the offending overpainted name over, further hiding the offending name. Still, the Grandees of the Washington Post are flipping their aprons in front of their faces in horror. If only Rick Perry had not got in that time machine and rode it back to the Nineteenth Century and forced those ol' boys to name that rock so offensively! Or something. I
m really having a problem figuring out why this is a news story. We already knew folks in the past did things and used words that we do not do or use anymore. Well, mostly. Slavery does not exist here anymore although it is still extant in some Muslim areas. We do not use the term "Nigger" much anymore although it is still in use in the black neighborhoods. Funny that.
I would probably do better ignoring this, like I would probably do better never noticing anything that comes from the Washington Post.

So, Now I'm A Terrorist? Oookay. What Happens Next?
So, according to the establishment left we are now terrorists, hostage takers and are holding guns to America's head. We gathered, first in tens and hundreds, then in thousands and tens of thousands, finally in that huge rally in Washington, DC. Funny, each time there was something first noticed by the right, at that "Dan's Bake Sale", where Rush Limbaugh and some 65,000 fans showed up in Fort Collins, Colorado. The crowd left the grounds cleaner than they found them.
This is the right. When we go somewhere we drop our trash in the barrels. If we see something loose we pick it up and throw it away. Funny thing, you can tell, with perhaps eighty percent efficiency , conservative people from lefties at a highway rest stop. The conservatives will be the ones emptying a trash container into the barrels. But, I digress.
Does anyone remember Nancy Pelosi leading that bunch of lefty Congresscritters right through the crowd of thousands pleading that our health care system, the best in the world, to not me smashed into bureaucrat's fiefdoms? Sure, we remember. The left screeching about how we were yelling NI**ER at the congresscritters, some of whom were holding video cameras and then state of the art cell phone cameras up. Think hard, Breitbart has offered a pretty fair sum of money to anyone with video proof, so far no takers.
That, of course, was merely business as usual in Washington. More business as usual is that jug eared, empty headed narrow-assed clown in the White House whining that all the nation's economic problems are because of George W. Bush. Too bad we don't have a news media. I would love someone asking this bunch of fools to tell us the exact unemployment rate in November, 2006. Funny how in the last period of Republican "rule" unemployment was 4.6 percent and wages up 3.9 percent. We're coming up on six years of Democrat rule, now, although we have wrested one half of Congress away from the Pelosi-Reid gang of thieves. So, now we have the Vice President of the United States of America, agreeing with a United States Congressman that we acted like terrorists.
A deal which does not stop the ship of state from taking on water but merely slows the leak a tiny bit is not a tragedy for the government. The tragedy for the government is that you idiot professional politicians simply find yourselves unable to stop spending money you do not have and cannot get. Representative Cleaver, the debt deal IS a "Satan Sandwich". It is such because it , along with other of your programs, keeps your people mired in poverty.
National wealth has plummeted since the Pelosi-Reid Congress and the Obama Presidency. Funny, though, the wealth of minority America has plummeted even more. And yet, you call us racist? Mr. Vice President, Representative Cleaver, Mr. President, I have to ask you all, why is it, if WE the conservatives hate the poor so much and are so racist, why is it that the worst sections of the entire country are all Democrat strongholds? Well, up until you took over, now entire sections of the country are dying. Thanks a lot.
How long, Mr. President, Mr. Vice President, Congressmen Doyle and Cleaver (and a whole host of others) before you figure out that it is your policies that are killing the last, best hope of mankind. Or do you realize that you are killing the country. If so, why? Who gains?
I'm just a small town boy grown old. I know the world has changed and will continue to change. What I cannot understand is why you continue to insult and denigrate the ever decreasing number of people who pay your salaries. There are still hundreds of ways for poor people to become if not rich, at least middle class. Yet your bunch goes out and closes children's lemonade stands when you don't want to put whole states like Texas in the dark. Who gains and who loses, then, Mr. President? The middle class who will tighten their belts a little more to pay the higher power bills or the poor, who you claim to care so much about?
Se, my question remains. Are you wrecking the country, and the futures of those you claim to care so much about, by accident? If so, how long before you notice that everything you do makes things worse? Or are you wrecking the country on purpose> If so, do you really expect us to let you do so? Really? You ain't seen terrorists yet.

History Repeats
I haven't been posting for too long. Seems that the only computer we have left with an Internet connection is the little laptop. When we bought it we couldn't manage to get it online, even after Linda Lou bought the Verizon Internet card. So we finally took it along to the kid's house and our son in law, Dean, fixed it.
So I have Internet but I hate, hate, HATE the keyboard on it.
So, anyway, I was not really surprised to see that character in Norway going wild with a couple of guns and bombs. What did they think? Hi, folks, we are going to change your whole society. And then, because we are the important people, we are sending our young adult kids to a special camp where they will learn how to keep changing your whole society in ways that you, the ordinary, do not wish it to go. Since, we, not you are important, we will ignore you except to collect your taxes. Oh, and we'll continue to import vast numbers of people who hate you.
We, the really smart people (just ask us) will not only keep changing your world to our dream of a one world, no matter how much evidence to the contrary accumulates.
We've been through this before. Europe does not particularly like to have it's whole society changed from above by self-described smart people. Anybody read about Germany in, say, 1924? The really smart, somewhat left of center types were running things then. With the usual results. Money became worthless and a feller with an odd moustache took over a particularly ruthless bunch of socialists. His National Socialists were, in a lot of ways, much like the Norwegian Socialists except the Norwegian Socialists have yet to kill Jews, although Jews are getting mighty uncomfortable there.
The biggesst difference, of course, is the Norwegian Socialists have a camp just for their kids while the National Socialists wanted all the (non-Jewish) kids. Oh, and the National Socialists camps for kids had guns and knives.
Somehow the really smart people can never figure out that there are billions of firearms in the world and all the laws that the really smart people can think of will not keep firearms out of the hands of those who would use them. Since the really smart people have never bothered to enter a machine shop they have no idea how easy they are to make.
So, a guy decided to make war back on the really smart people. Everyone is shocked. Imagine that. Note to the really smart people of the USA: double up on the guards at places like Sidwell Friends.
Update: I keep reading that this Breivik feller killed children. No, he killed teenagers and young adults. Lots of those kids were a few years older than I was when I made the first landings at Chu Lai.

Congressman Weeniewagger
I really don't know where to begin with this Congressman Weiner thing. I go over to one of the 12 bazillion links from Ace of Spades or the Puppyblender and see that liberal women are attracted to Weiner because he screams at Republicans. Then they call this chicken lipped nebish an "alpha male". That pencil neck an alpha male? Heck, he'd have to study hard to be a zeta male. Someone tell me how long this punk would last in boot camp.
Weiner is the result of the feminizing of the American male. Not all males have been feminized, of course, it's just that those who have not are unwelcome in polite society. A Marine or an old school Boatswain's Mate must use the servant's entrance and not come into the parlor with the "quality", at least not until reaching the Flag Officer ranks.
Weiner isn't alone, of course. Look at the new mayor of Chicago. Another pencil neck who has made his living destroying other people by using words that, in my great grandfather's day would have got him horsewhipped, if not called out to a gunfight.
Weiner is not the problem, merely a symptom. I am not going to ever say that men with no chests should be thrown out of society, I am saying that men (and women) should be held responsible for their speech. And, yes, I mean fistfights. I mean we should again recognise the concept of "fighting words".
Personally I don't care what kind of pictures the Weeniewagger sends to women who ask for a look at his needledick. If he sent those same pictures to a woman who had not asked to see his ridiculously small package I would expect her husband, boyfriend or father to go searching for him. Nor would I be particularly interested in what he held in his hands. Heck, most of the young women who are paid to make me ache in places that I haven't even thought of in decades could hunt him down and stomp him like a snake. And bein' good Texas gals, they would! Weiner is supposed to be a grown man, let him take full responsibility for his actions, and their consequences.
Heck, if he sent such pictures to my daughter she would first pray for him. If he showed up and she thought he was a danger to her children she'd shoot him down like a rabid coyote. Or her husband would.
Another thing that bothers me about this whole thing is how the lefties always talk about we, on the right, want to force our values on everyone. Yet it is the left who want Kindergarten kids to start learning about condoms. So, when they do it it's "education", if we do it it's forcing our values on people. Well, we haven't always lived up to our values, as a matter of simple fact, there has only been one perfect person in all history, according to most of us in this country. And He believed in fighting words if you look at what He did in that temple to the moneychangers.
Now it may seem like I too am using fighting words. Well, okay. I'm a little old for fistfights but, if a leftist, especially one I have named here mad enough, come on down. Put a little something in your hand, we'll go out to the vacant lot and see who walks out. I'm game, are they? If not, they shouldn't talk like that about us and they shouldn't strut around like banty roosters. Congressman Weiner may have stones, although from that underwear pic you couldn't prove it. He does, otherwise, act like a screeching eunuch.

Wisconsin (And Other States) It All Started With Jealosy
About the first government workers of manage to join into protective organizations were the police departments and fire depts., for good reason, the police and firemen were on the line before most others. The others came later.
In the days when political patronage reached far into the lower ranks of government workers those with a lick of sense realized the idiocy of firing patrol officers and detectives, not to mention firemen, with each new administration. After all, it takes some time to learn the streets and how to keep fire damage and loss of life to a minimum.
So the police and firemen formed "benevolent associations" which eventually became labor unions. Along came the bus drivers, sanitation workers and, eventually, teachers. After they too formed labor unions they wanted the same pay and retirement bennies that police and firemen got, forgetting some important differences. There is a REASON police and firemen get to retire early. The common retirement used to be half pay at twenty years, three quarters at thirty. I admit to not keeping up with big city policies or gains made in the last twenty or so years.
Policing and fighting fires are young men's games. A sanitation worker does not have to chase, then fight and, finally cuff the garbage before throwing it into the truck. A city bus driver can still drive the bus at age sixty.
There are only a limited number of jobs that can still be done by the older police and firefighters. This is not that those jobs are unimportant, they are simply not physical.
The trouble is, folks like the teacher's union bosses see that cops get to retire while relatively young so they fight the tame politicians that have been elected because of union money for a benefit that simply does not apply. A teacher can still teach later in life than a firefighter can work the nozzle of a two and a half inch fire line or a bluesuit can fight a two hundred and eighty pound PCP monster.
Too many decades of that jealousy has led us to what is going on in Wisconsin now, California and Illinois next.
My fear is that police and firefighters will lose that option of retiring early. We will then see sixty-two year old officers on street patrol. Fortunately I live where we can still shoot bad guys.

Comments Back, So I'll Comment On Some Things
People are noticing that both the Army and the FBI fell down on that Hassan case and let a bunch of unarmed soldiers die with more wounded. People are also wondering how our very expensive foreign "Intelligence" outfits missed Egypt. Um, could it be that political correctness does not work with law enforcement, the military and intelligence? Perhaps I could have shortened that to "political correctness does not work".
We had another six or seven inches of snow overnight. When the freeze started I got caught by surprise. I seldom check the weather, Linda Lou is mesmerized by it and checks it constantly so she tells me about it. I, OTH, look out the window before I need to go out and then dress. Well, Linda Lou fell down on the job and did not tell me we were getting cold into the 'teens. The pipes are frozen somewhere and we have no running water.
I shall trudge through the snow over to Patsy's and beg a few gallons, over and above our emergency drinking supply so I can flush toilets, water dogs, etc. When the cold only gets into the mid twenties I don't have to run water because our "pipes, actually PVC "hoses" run right next to the heat and air ducts under the house.
Anyhow, it's really pretty out there, I hate the idea of leaving footprints through it. If for no other reason that my feet will get cold. Anyhow, I really, REALLY, REALLY hope that my flexible "pipes" have enough stretch in them to not have burst. Won't know 'til the thaw. Fortunately, this ain't the frozen tundra where blogfaddah Harv lives so we will find out sooner than, say, June.
Later: I have trudged through the snow, twice, returning with four gallons of water each time. I should have done another trip but, to heck with it. Linda Lou's bedside commode and the toilet is cleaned out, there is a pot o' coffee brewin' and we still have a dozen bottles of drinking water.
Things are pretty nice in the modern days with electric lights, heat without having to chop and haul wood, running water and all. It's easy to forget.
I'm wondering things about modern life as I age. I have had some major disagreements with my (electronic) friend and sister in all but blood Cynthia. Cynthia, who writes better than I, plus understands computers and stuff better, disagrees with me about gay marriage and gays in the military, both of which I believe I am on the losing side. Time will tell which of us is right. Still, Cynthia's position is rooted in what she considers justice, mine is rooted in practicality. I am not against either thing out of anything but my conservatism. I do not wish to make big changes until I know the long term results of those changes. Gays in the military? Fine. Put one Army division, plus all the support troops with a like sized bunch of the other Services, into the gay-friendly mode. Let's see how those organisations far over ten years. I'm not sure exactly how to do the same with gay marriage but someone smart could figger it out.
Later: 2/08/11. I got tired of writing but shall finish torquing the rest of the world off with abortion. I believe the deplorable conditions in that Philly "clinic" and the apparent willingness of various Planned Parenthood offices to ignore the law and not report probable statuary rape cases and even assist in child prostitution rings. Life is either a precious gift (from our Creator) or it isn't. If it isn't, it's just a commodity with varying value. So, why are we acting surprised when some do not value that commodity the same way others do?
I am an equity feminist. I could not grow up to be my Mother's son without being an equity feminist. My Mother was a lot more skilled and competent than many, perhaps most, of the men promoted over her at the railroad. Yet "the rules" stopped her promotion. Yet when gender feminism came along, she ignored it. The kind of feminism that came along was a construct of soulless leftism, much of it was simply a way to get some gullible women to lie down with leftist men.
Why is abortion such a big industry? It's simple, a couple of generations of leftists has convinced a sizable percentage of the women of this country to lie down with men whom they have no desire to raise children. Of course there was the movement to create lots of men with whom no one would want to raise children. These at the same time have literally destroyed the family.
At the same time there is the myth that women were not valued, back in the day. That wife beating was common, that rape happened on a regular basis. Well, maybe. In Arabia or some faraway place. As recently as the 1950s rape carried the death penalty here. And in the 1950s people on death row did not die of old age while going through 98 rounds of appeals.
Commercially viable abortions are not because of rape. Nor are they because of failure of birth control or the unborn baby being deformed. Commercially viable abortion businesses are simply from enough women who have devalued themselves enough to lie down with those valueless men. Funny how those people laugh at those who still value themselves.
As to the idea that wifebeating was common back then, again, people still believed in punishment. Here is a thought experiment, it's 1895. Police are still rudimintary in the big cities, almost nonexistent in the countryside. People still believe in protecting themselves and punishing the wrongdoers. Now, imagine being a man and wanting to beat your wife for some minor infraction. That wife has a big iron skillet, butcher knives, the hatchet used to kill the chicken and access to the family shotgun. And you are going to beat this woman and then go to sleep next to her. Right. And just how do you plan on awakening?
Sorry, the women of yesteryear helped fend of Indian attacks and coyotes from the chicken coops. They helped stand off horse thieves and rustlers. Then came their daughters and granddaughters. Yesterday's women stood the great depression and we now think they let themselves be beaten? Worse, we think their men thought so little of them they they would beat them? That those men thought so little of themselves that they would set themselves in harness for a lifetime with someone of so little value?
Sorry, people who value themselves so little is recent. and it's on purpose. And it will destroy the last best hope of mankind if left to run amok.
The antidote is both very easy and very hard. It starts with believing that I have worth. That is easy. The hard part? I must live up to that worth. It continues with believing that you have worth, and treating you as if you do, while expecting that you live up to that worth.
This is why the self esteem craze that flowed through our "education system" a while back only got half the problem. Why, yes, it is important that kids feel good about themselves. What the "educators" forgot is that those kids must do something they can feel good about first. Why is our society heading down the tubes? Well it probably started when we became a nation of consumers, rather than producers. And it all started with the devaluing of humanity. And it will continue until humanity is valued.
Oh, if anyone cares, we got through with no pipe damage, the snow is gone and we are resupplied for the next storm which is due later today. We have milk, coffee, Linda Lou's soda, bacon, eggs, meat and canned goods, and the propane tank is over half full and the water is running enough to prevent a freeze in the pipes. Is it spring yet?

Dear Sheriff Dupnik
I am really wondering about those five times police were called because of Loughner's increasingly bizarre behavior at that community college. So far, all we are hearing from Clarence Dupnik, the chief law enforcement officer of Pima County has not said much except that somehow the Right and the immigration battle is responsible for this shooting.
It would be nice to know if, during any of those five times police were called to the campus to deal with Loughner, they ever took him to jail. If not, why not? Officers are not Psych experts, they are trained to notice gross mental problems. So, if they never took him to jail, doesn't that count as negligence?
If they did take him to jail, why didn't they ever take him for a Psych Evaluation? Had they taken him he should have been committed. If he had been committed he would not have been able to legally buy that Glock. It's also likely that if he had been committed her would not have been able to buy one outside the law. Few criminals want to get caught and so would not deal with a guy babbling irrationally.
Clarence, I know that the actual law enforcement side of your department is run by your Chief Deputy while you take care of the budget and the politics. Still, instead of looing so far afield, shouldn't you be looking just a little closer to home on this? Or, Clarence, are you making all this noise to deflect attention from your baliwick?

General Quarters, General Quarters! This Is No Drill! All Hands Man Your Battle Stations!
The Obama Administration seems to be totally suicidal. The EPA is now considering banning lead ammunition. Even dumber, they have opened comments on the scheme, comments closing on October 31. The election being November the second. Way to bring us bitter clingers to the polls!
I am trying to link the story Here. Lets see if this works. Ha! Seems like it did. My blog-fu is improving!
Anyhow, you should follow the directions and send a nice little note to the EPA on this. You should also call or write your Representative in Congress, plus both Senators.
Oddly I have read that when Congress allowed the EPA to lord it over lead, they specifically exempted ammunition, mainly for fear the military would end up on the short end, also because they remember '94, after the "assault weapons" ban. What, are you silly enough to think that it was all Newt and the Contract?
Okay, I understand that the upper ranks of this Administration (or is it a regime?) have little or no practical experience. Still, you would think that someone there would like a tiny bit of help from Congress. As the word trickles out about this jackass move, everyone ready to give up on Republicans will be enraged and energized. Does anyone in this regime know that when you go bear hunting you do not cover yourself in lard, fish and berries and then arm yourself only with a thin willow switch? Peabrains. Worse. Brains rattling around in their heads like a BB in a boxcar. Oh, and BBs have lead cores. Actually BB shot is usually all lead. For some strange reason, the BBs used in BB guns is slightly bigger than the size of BB shot for shotguns. I never really understood that. The only reason I can think of for that is so a proud owner of a Red Ryder BB gun can't buy a 25 pound bag of shot and be in business for a year or so. But, I digress.
And these people claim to be smart. Lord help me. Obama, if you don't pee on this fire right now, you can just "Say Good Night, Gracie".
It is up to us, the bitter clingers, to put a stop to this nonsense.
Update, 3:10 AM 8/29/10: Between the time I wrote the above and the time I got home from the midnight "birthday meeting" of the AA group where I sobered up all those years ago, the EPA says that it has rejected banning lead ammunition. Okay, good. We still need to keep an eye on 'em, though. I'll post something soon about the birthday meeting and my grandson Josiah's fourth birthday party soon.

Just Crazy Talk
Well I see that the news is not about the economy sinking like a lead canoe, nor is it about Congress looking like it will swing hard right after the election. It's not even about The President's polls reaching, in less than two years, numbers that look like what it took the media seven years to give George Bush.
No, the big news is that some one fifth to one quarter of the population thinks Barack Hussein Obama is Muslim.
Naturally, the media types say that this makes the population stupid. Sure. I mean, someone who called himself Barry until after college now calls himself Barack. Sure the guy had a Muslim father and, according to the rules of Islam, that makes him one too. Silly things like when he was in that school in Indonesia, the paperwork had him as a Muslim and that his stepfather was Muslim, why should anyone think any of that makes him a Muslim. That's just crazy talk.
Next some percentage of the population might think that someone named Francis Terrence O'Callahan might be Catholic. Just crazy talk.
In other odd news the New York Times had this editorial out about Tom DeLay finally being cleared of all federal charges. In it they comment that he was only cleared because lawmakers had not made his actions illegal. Well, duh. That has got to be one of the silliest thing I've ever seen. Well, yeah, NYT, and the only reason it's legal for you numb skulls to breathe air is the lawmakers haven't made it illegal for you to do so. No, New York Times, the reason DeLay has been cleared of federal charges is that he followed the laws as they were written. If the laws had been written differently he would have followed them as they were written then. Now they have not yet made it illegal to be a Republican, as much as the NYT would like that. Idiots.
I've been remiss in posting lately, I've been doing a little extra reading. In addition to my "regular" reading and the internet reading, I have just got a CD ROM from Handloader Magazine called The Art of Bullet Casting. This six hundred page tome on a CD-ROM is keeping me busy. I swear, though, some of it carries less knowledge than Joe Schmoe the handloader. Oh well, I am learning something, even though much of the "book" is about loading for cartridges I will never own, nor have I any interest in owning, even if I won the lottery. I doubt I'll win the lottery, too, considering that I don't buy tickets.
Anyhow, I'm around, just busy.

Probably A Dumb Question...
Here is a little thing I don't quite understand. The Government Motors Volt will, it is alleged, run on electricity. Now this $41,000.00 car will not make electricity, it has a big battery that needs to be charged. So, instead of pulling up to a gas station it has to be plugged in and charged, right?
Please pardon me for bein' a pore dumb redneck but isn't half the country going through near crisis problems with not enough electricity being generated? Wasn't that a big part of why the last Gov. of California being recalled and poor old Ah-nold being elected?
So, I reckon I'm not quite smart enough for this. You buy a car with the passenger room and performance of a cheap compact, for a luxury/performance car price. Then you won't be able to take a vacation in it, any motel would throw you out if you hooked it up, plus it doesn't have the range to be able to go very far out on the freeways, anyhow.
Seeing as how we taxpayers are on the hook for this thing, shouldn't somebody have thought of this, already?
